Maria Ressa - Response

  1. What problems is the author discussing in this article?

- The problem that the author is discussing is the fact of technology ruining credibility and how a lot of information gets twisted so easily. How these false information, which can be minor in the moment, can have a larger effect later and misdirect people.

2. How does this problem arise because of technology?

- Technology has allowed information to spread faster than ever and it can get hard to track what is the right information and what is false. The author states that people find facts boring and that lies capture people attention more so with how fast information spreads, a simple lie can become someone's "truth" if we don't fact check.

3. What solutions does the author suggest?

- The author suggest regulations and guardrails be put into place. It needs actual people checking with each other (she mentions the four layers that they go through) and basically fact checking until you are confident that this is a credible fact.

4. How would you solve the problems outlined?

- Honestly, this is a tough one. It is so hard to control information and figure out what is real and true while what is fake and false. Main way to take the problem out would be to remove the website or platform that they are working on (suspend their accounts) but even the author mentions that you remove one and many more come along so it gets tough to control in this aspect too. The best way would be to put out laws that would cause false information to be fined for or punished for. It should have some restriction on what can be published and what can not and who the information is coming from. Not everything on social media is the truth so a website is more credible than social media in that aspect. Once we restrict and start "punishing" for false information you will see less false information as people don't want to face the repercussions. That is just a way to limit it not the eliminate. I don't think this problem could ever go away.

Bouncy Ball

For our homework, we had to create a ball that bounces off each 4 sides and basically changed colors each time it did (didn't matter if it repeated). We had learned how to make it bounce left and righ
